Post [QUESTION] Skills
I have a rather neat idea for skills, but I'd like some help implementing it. Firstly, what I want to do in my game is have unique, interesting skills for each character. None of the classic 'FIRE' 'ICE II' bull. That's easy enough.

What I want to do, may or may not fall under skills, though. You know how when you set a level for skills, and hit that level up, it tells you '[CHARACTER] learned [SKILL]'? Well, I want to make passive skills, that a character will learn after leveling just like normal skills, but are passive and work in the background during each fight.

Example: Crono learned Stun! *Stun would be a passive skill, in which the character has a 5% chance of stunning the opponent with each strike; it does not get used from the skill menu*

See what I mean? Kinda complicated, I know, but I hope you can help me.

Post Re: [QUESTION] Skills
Your passive skill example sounds like an added effect to a character in general.
Which weapons can be outfitted to have state powers already right?

This probably wont help but the only thing I can really think of is something along to the lines of having events that activate when a character is a certain level for the notifications and as for the extra effects on characters such as chance for stunning attacks. The best I can think of is sacrificing the ability to change weapons and having different sets of the characters weapons which increase in these powers (such as stun) and having each level up event change the characters weapon to an upgraded version to fullfill the effects gained.

Thats really all I can think of without going into the codeing script side of things. The defensive side of things would probably be slightly easier since you can just make multiple classes for each character, when they hit a certain promotion level, it would change the characters class to the next higher one which would have better resistance to elements and states.

You probably may of found a way around your problem by now, I dunno. Theres definatley someone out there who can give a better go at your problem, but hey! I tried.

In short =
OFFENSIVE POWER UPGRADES -
A.) Sacrifice the ability to equip weapons/equipment and upgrade a characters weapon/equipment for milestone level as a promotion.

B.) Have a level requirment for obtaining higher ranked weapons/equipment (be it an upgrade spell a character gets for the level hit... which is pretty much a longer version of A, lol.)

DEFENSIVE POWER UPGRADES -
A.) Same as A. for Offensive power but for Equipment.

B.) Have classes that characters change to at level milestones. Each class has greater resistance for certain effects and states until godlike.
